Discover the real taste of dffrnt as we delve into the profiles of our ferments

What does dffrnt actually taste like?

So you’re keen to join the dffrnt world, but you’re not quite sure which flavour’s going to set your heart a sizzle? Whether it’s your first foray into the many varied tastes of kombucha/fermented tea, or you’re an old hand, our brews all have their own distinct identity - unlike any you might have tasted before. The first thing we often hear from buchie-newbies is ‘but I don’t like tea!’ - kombucha tastes nothing like your classic cuppa, so don’t be put off if you aren’t reaching for the earl grey of an afternoon. While it’s hard to get their true ‘je ne sais quoi’ down on paper (or screen, as it were) here’s a little intro to our three fine ferments.

Sacred Sprig:  green tea with African botanicals

Sacred Sprig hits you with that grown-up spirit—smooth, strangely familiar and flawless. But just when you think it’s all sophistication, surprise! It takes you back to the sweet nostalgia of black wine gums. This playful twist makes it your go-to on balmy summer days, thanks to its refreshing mint and citrus combo. At its core is sencha green tea, packed with antioxidants and a history as rich as its flavour. Back in the 8th century, only nobles and monks got a taste of this elite brew. So, hey, don’t hold back—sip like royalty and rock that raised pinky!

Fun fact: Sencha tea leaves grow soaking up full sunlight, and honestly? You can taste every ray of sunshine in Sacred Sprig’s golden bubbles.

Treacle Leaf

Treacle Leaf offers a delightful balance of sweetness and zest, combining the caramel-like richness of Pekoe tea leaves with a vibrant citrus edge. The Pekoe tea, made exclusively from the top two youngest leaves, carries a fresh, youthful essence, while Yerba Mate, made from the naturally caffeinated leaves of the South American yerba mate tree, adds a smooth energy boost and enhanced focus. This blend captures the warmth of tropical beaches with subtle bursts of bergamot, orange, and grapefruit zest, creating a rounded, almost sherbet-like flavour experience. It’s like a mini tropical escape in every sip—perfectly refreshing and subtly invigorating.

Fun fact: ‘Pekoe’ refers to the top two (youngest) leaves which are the only ones that can be used in a Pekoe tea.  These leaves lend Treacle Leaf its zingy, tropical sparkle and its distinctively youthful flavour.

Tangled Shrub: Sencha Green tea with floral botanicals

Tangled Shrub is like sencha green tea’s chic cousin who knows how to throw a garden party. Imagine those elegant green leaves dressed up with rose petals, jasmine blossoms, and a cheeky elderflower twist—basically the botanical equivalent of wearing designer florals. The flavour’s got sophistication written all over it: sweet meets dry with a crisp finish so sparkling it could rival your favourite Prosecco. It might be the early spring harvest or maybe the elderflower notes, but this brew gives the feel of a summer party without the next-day regret.
